Inspired by landscapes around him each day, George Crawford depicts vistas from the countryside to the city. Crawford describes himself as a colorist, and it translates into his work where he is fascinated by the richness that light reveals to him. He began his artistic adventure in his teen years and earned a BA from Kent State in Art Education…and as he says, his education continues every day.
In recalling a recent trip to Arizona, Crawford was struck by the quality of light and the relationship to the colors surrounding him…and the different between what his camera had shown with what his mind’s eye told him to paint.
“When I sit down to a white canvas, it begins to reveal things to me. Gradually, colors and shapes harmonize until the process is underway.”
